I always enjoy wiring and am always trying out new ideas and places to mount things to make the next persons life a little easier. Here I installed a junction block under the dash plate so I did not have to load the switch up with a hundred wires. In case the switch fails...you just disconnect the three wires and install a new one. It also keeps all the circuts in their proper position so if you blow a fuse it is easy to track down where the problem is....lighting or continuous power.
I put all the fuses right behind the plate and between tank to also be easy to see and get at should a problem come up.
Got it all ready to turn over and the starter would not engauge and here is what I found. Someone had used a later clutch basket, for an 1984 to 1985 5 speed, possibly from an FLT or FXR I think. As you can see the ring gear sits out much farther on it. The clutch baskets look the same except for the ring gear and slightly larger space between the ring gear and the sprocket, for the starter. It is set out a little farther because of the belt drive system, instead of chain. No wonder it had starter problems. Always find some strange things when you tear apart an old shovel. These 40 year old bikes can have some treasures after everybody has been at it through the years. Installed the right one and she whirls over fine.
The brakes are all powdercoated and rebuilt and equipped with Russel Stainless Steel Braided lines and held in place with small clamps for longevity.
So here she sits...some little things to go but just waiting for the paint to move ahead.
